Funding
Find funding sources for your new ministry |
|
For most, finding funds to start a
new ministry seems to be the most challenging part of the
process. Funding sources through grants, scholarships, and
institutional gifts are becoming increasingly less available.
New ministries are having to become creative in finding funding
sources. Below are listed two categories of funding sources for
new or revitalizing ministries. The first is called
“Non-Traditional
Funding Sources”, here are suggestions on how to fund a
ministry with no official application process. The second is
“Grant Funding Sources”, here are suggestions and
links to grants and institutional funds available for
ministries. Remember, most ministries rely on a combination of
various funding sources not just one.
The goal of The Board of Congregational Development is to
help develop ministries that will be ongoing and self supporting
long after the grant monies have ended. Although money is very
important for ministries, it is not the key to success. Good
planning, demographic studies, proper leadership training, and
faithful support will go much further in insuring success |

Non-Traditional Funding Sources
Parent Church (daughter, birthing and/or mission church)
An existing church
sponsors a completely new church in a new location. Existing
church provides staff, laity, financial and other resources.
Cluster Model A group of churches agree to joint together
to start a new ministry. All of the participating cluster
churches support with funds, leadership, laity, and space. This
is seen as a missional by the cluster churches to start new
ministries. Variations include pooling resources to start a
specific ministry (ethnic, Gen-X, youth, outreach, food bank,
etc) at one of the participating church facilities.
Satellite Ministry A parent church starts an off-site
worship service in same community targeted to a different group
(ethnic, contemporary, Gen-X, etc)
Shared Facilities (Church within a church) Existing
congregation opens facility to another type of ministry group.
This can be an ethnic ministry or contemporary, Gen-X,
post-modern, etc. It really is two separate congregations with
funding from the parent until the new ministry is self
supporting.
